I am currently a senior at Central Washington University studying Public Relations and Nonprofit Management. This year, I have taken classes that are required for my Public Relations degree including: Intro to Public Relations, Advanced Public Relations Writing, and Central Communications Agency. I am also currently taking a web design class to further my skill in web development and graphic design.
At the Central Communications Agency I am an Senior Account Supervisor for the College of Arts and Humanities for the 2015/2016 school year. The environment in Central Communications Agency is specifically tuned to developing skills I will need in the professional world which is something that I am drawn towards. I appreciate the real world application of this agency and intend to spend the rest of my time at CWU with this organization.
I am a Program Leader at the Center for Leadership and Community Engagement. Working in this position has given me the opportunity to plan and implement volunteering events where I manage and engage teams in order to give back to the community. A past event that I organized is Forget Me Not Bingo. In this event, I had to bring together senior citizens and volunteers to raise money for the American Cancer Society. In this project, my team and I recruited volunteers, post ads the event on our public website and social media, work with our graphic designer to create flyers and collect donations from local community businesses. We handled an event attended by approximately 70 people to educate them about cancer and cancer research, raise money for the American Cancer Society and play a good game of Bingo.
My intended goals include becoming communications program manager. I would like a position that I could represent and promote a company where I would focus on CSR or working with a nonprofit organization. Marketing and advertising may come into the area of public relations so I am working to gain more skills in design technology such as web design and Microsoft Office Suite. Upon completion of my bachelor’s degree I aim to get an internship at a small nonprofit organization to start out my experience in the field.
